Sogeti develops Talk Different, first universal language mobile application to be available worldwide

talk differentParis, France, April 20, 2015 - Sogeti France, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Capgemini Group, develops and deploys Talk Different1, the first mass market mobile application using a universal language. Talk Different is an innovative communication tool, intuitive, playful, currently accessible to all in nine languages, and available on the Google Play and App store2. This unique application meets the needs of customers within the medical, educational and tourism sectors.

The mobile application, Talk Different, is for anyone who wants to communicate in a playful way, combining images, text, words and sounds. Available worldwide, the application also meets the needs of people with literacy and shyness challenges, as well as language impairment and disability.

"I have worked for over three years on this project with the goal that Talk Different would be accessible to all, for less than a euro on smartphones, while being very easy to use. The application requires no special training,” said Marie Spitz, creator of Talk Different and President of the MPSLS company3. “Talk Different offers new opportunities in the medical world and particularly in the area of disability. It is already available, and I continuously add new features and modules, especially for health and disability purposes since the need for ad hoc modules, particularly in the medical field, is constant.

The app, developed and deployed by Sogeti from its Digital Center of Excellence based in Rennes, France, was built using a hybrid application model4. Talk Different uses the latest technologies in the development of hypermedia5 mobile solutions and agile practices well suited to B2C (Business to Consumer) services. Based on HTML5, Java 5 and Responsive Web Design6, the solution behind the app provides opportunity to have a single source code for Android and iOS targets, in order to optimize reading and navigation.

Talk Different allows easy communication via a smartphone or tablet based on a library of over 700 images for Version 1, which meet everyday life needs. The user communicates by constructing sentences consisting of a series of images, sometimes animated, combining these with text and customizable sounds. They can also express emotions using emocolors7, and insert photos, drawings, or recordings. The sentences can be "played" in a slideshow, through speech or customized with voice.

Patrick Marquet, Project Manager at Sogeti France, said: "Talk Different makes everyday communication easier via an intuitive and fun application. With her exceptional vision and drive, Marie Spitz has invented a new way of communicating for people who may not speak the same language or who suffer from a range of disabilities. This new app can even be used to reassure children before an upcoming medical procedure.

"I discovered Sogeti via their “Defi H”, an impressive Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, creating innovative projects for the integration of people experiencing disability. That motivated my choice to work with them. Defi H engages technology/engineering-oriented schools and shows great energy to shape the future. Very involved in the world of disability and autism, I have found in Sogeti a real partner as part of a shared ethical project,” concluded Spitz.

4 A hybrid application is a mobile application that combines elements of HTML5 elements of a native application for using the functionality of smartphones and to be distributed as an application on the application platforms (App Store, Android Market , so forth.). It reduces the costs and development time required to propose several native apps for different mobile operating systems.
5 A mobile solution Hypermedia is an extension of hypertext multimedia data, which adds to the text information, other media such as images, audio, video or multimedia data.
6 Responsive Web Design: web design approach aimed at the development of websites offering a reading optimization and navigation to the user regardless of its model range (mobile phones, tablets, e-readers, computer office).
7 The communication of emotions - that love, anger, joy, fear, pleasure and sadness - called "émocolors" is based on the play of colors, such as pink for love, red for anger, etc.

About Marie Spitz
Marie Spitz is the mother of a young daughter, Pauline, who is autistic, with severe language disorders. Fifteen years ago, when learning about the disability that affects her daughter, Marie ended her professional activity at a Franco-German business school, dedicating a large part of her time and energy to the cause of disability. Due to Pauline’s speaking and language difficulties Marie engages in alternative communication techniques she will be using by herself over many years, sometimes adding competence experts within the disability field. Three years ago, with the advancement of digital solutions, smartphones and tablets, she decided to create Talk Different, a universal way to communicate for all. She is Chairman of her own company, MPSLS, created in 2013.
