After Mobile, Big Data and the Internet of Things, Machine Intelligence (MI) is The Next Big Thing. Machine Intelligence is the accelerator of these predecessors. With an impending breakthrough of Machine Intelligence, the interesting question is what change that will bring. In a series of reports on MI, Sogeti’s trend watchers explore the potential impact, starting with a first report giving an executive introduction to Machine Intelligence, followed by three additional reports.
WELCOME TO THE BOT ERA
During the F8 developers’ congress on 12 April 2016, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, disclosed that he was routinely using ‘bots’ – smart software applications – on Facebook Messenger. According to Zuckerberg Messenger is now sizeable enough to embed it in a new ecosystem. Apart from friends and family, we can now also use this platform to have conversations with artificial ‘friends’.
DISRUPTION IS THE NEW NORMAL
Three reports on the vigorous acceleration that is now taking place everywhere form the basis of this venture. Your input is certainly welcome and, in that respect, this is a request to join in. Interviews with directors and leaders of innovation sections - perhaps also from your organization - form an important ingredient of this new project.
NEW DIGITAL COMPETITION
In this report we focus on new digital challengers and competitors. Few established organizations wise up to them at an early stage, as they usually come from outside these organizations’ industries and are not taken seriously at first. Their allegedly inferior propositions confuse prominent players, who should in fact be the very first to be open to disruptive innovation. We outlined this innovator’s dilemma in our executive introduction to the Design to Disrupt theme.
BLOCKCHAIN: CRYPTOPLATFORM FOR A FRICTIONLESS ECONOMY
This third Design to Disrupt report, "Blockchain, cryptoplatform for a frictionless economy”, is devoted to an entirely new design principle. It outlines the potential impact of blockchain, a new way of organizing trust in the presence of unreliable parties. It owes its current fame to the currency, the bitcoin, in particular, but the cryptographic capacities of the network can be deployed in a variety of other ways.
MASTERING DIGITAL DISRUPTION WITH DEVOPS
In our previous disruption reports we sketched the prospect of the ‘Valley of Death’. Traditional organizations will end up in this track of deadly peril if they fail to come up with a timely solution to disruption. What should organizations do to be successful in digitally disruptive times? Organizations like yours, presumably, which were not born in the Web 2.0 age and do not bear names like Spotify or Dropbox
In our previous Design to Disrupt reports, we spoke of a journey through the ‘Valley of Death’ to ‘The New Normal’ which promised, for organizations that can navigate their path to the other side, competitive strength and anti-fragility. Like a well-designed bridge in the physical world, the path forward should span the Valley of Death and avoid the perils of the journey, providing safe passage to the other side.
